Canada has a long history of Irish Immigration from before the Famine to the present day. According to the 2006 census by Statistics Canada, the Irish were the fourth largest ethnic group in Canada with 4,354,000 Canadians with full or partial Irish descent, or 14% of the total population. The National Household Survey 2011 showed this number had increased to 4,544,870 and these figures continue to grow, with a total of 10,700 International Experience Canada (IEC) visas allocated for Irish people this year.
